Island Concepts

Concepts created for a project.
The goal of these illustrations was to convey the various visual elements, overall mood and themes of the project in a single frame.
This was an interesting exercise in producing quick turnaround / low end images using fast iteration techniques commonly used nowadays in most "concepts" across the entertainment industry: Heavy reliance on external photo sources, collaging, compositing and fast "paint over".
Even though I am satisfied with the end results, I think of these as "hack" concept pieces because this type of work doesn't require much artistic skills since there is little actual painting or drawing involved but a lot of compositing and blending of drastically different sources instead. But, that was the exact mandate and it got the ideas across for the presentation.
This work made me even more appreciative of the work of true concept art and matte painting masters (who "actually" paint light and elements.
